What happens to the girls when they leave? I tell the girls to dream their dream and we will try to make it happen. So they have aspirations about what they want to do in life. They are encouraged to go on to tertiary training. Of those who have been through the home, one has graduated from university as a journalist, others work as kindergarten teachers, or in garment factories. Several continue to study while they work, doing courses at night (some in accounting, one in organic chemistry).
Once they are 18 and old enough to leave the Home, staff ensure they have somewhere to live and a means of supporting themselves before they leave. Some are able to return to live with family members, others share an apartment together. |
